I love WORDS. I always have. I love the way some words perform somersaults on my tongue or flutter right out of my brain onto the page without ever being asked.
I love NATURE. I grew up in south Georgia on the edge of the Altamaha River swamp, surrounded by towering pines, flowering azaleas, and ancient cypress. While my brother and sister spent summer days exploring the forest, ponds, creeks, and river around us, I wrote about them and drew them. That landscape still shapes my work, and I am grateful every day to have been raised to know and appreciate all of Earth’s creatures.
I love COLOR. I wear clothes that are too bright, beads that are too sparkly, and drape every room I claim in rainbows. My husband loves brown. Opposites attract, right?
I write in both rhyme and lyrical prose and always seem to land quite comfortably in informational fiction. Exploring the world around me typically results in a yearning to teach, and so I write about forests and rivers and all the wild things, usually with an energetic rhythm and beat accompanied by colorful illustrations, sidebars, and wildly entertaining (to me) backmatter.
I am seeking representation and would love to connect with an agent who appreciates wordplay, likes to giggle while learning about dung beetles, and embraces a world filled with color.
